
Grant Criteria

Grants are awarded to non-profit organization(s) that will use the proceeds to expand an existing program or establish a new initiative. Before applying for an OHSB Grant, please review the following criteria to be certain your non-profit qualifies as a Grant Applicant:

Non-profit is a Christian organization committed to serving those in spiritual and physical need and proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Non-profit may not be a church.

Any use of grant money for advertising, marketing and salaries in total cannot exceed 20% of the grant amount being requested.

Past grant recipients may apply again after three years. 2021 grant recipients may apply again in December 2024 for the 2025 grant year.

Non-profit must have a 501(c)(3) IRS Tax Exempt Status for two years prior to the time of the application. This two-year period begins with the date of the IRS approval letter.

Grant request amount must not exceed half of non-profit’s current operating budget.

Grant request must NOT include ongoing operating expenses, rent, endowments, ongoing capital campaign funding, or debt retirement. Grant must cover the project to completion, except when funds are already ensured.

Non-profit must be a Birmingham-based organization, within a 50-mile radius of the Jefferson County Courthouse.
